Our Why
Experience the inspiring story of Sophie Lee, a young girl who showed us that bravery knows no age.
When Sophie was just a young child, she began experiencing intermittent leg pain with no other symptoms. Her family sought the help of hematology after the pain persisted for years. While initial test results appeared normal, a bone marrow aspiration revealed the unexpected diagnosis of Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS), a rare and dangerous precursor for Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
Sophie had to leave kindergarten and undergo a stem cell transplant, along with rounds of chemotherapy. The treatment journey was tough and came with its own set of complications, but Sophie's bravery and strength never faltered.
Her story is a reminder that even the youngest among us can display incredible courage and resilience in the face of adversity.
Join us in supporting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and raising awareness of these life-threatening diseases. Together, we can help fund research and patient care and honor the bravery of those like Sophie who inspire us all.
Sophie is an inspiration to all of us with her incredible resilience and determination. Although it has been a difficult journey to adjust to her "new normal," she has been working hard to increase her physical and mental strength through activities such as bike rides and playdates with friends, all while receiving invaluable support from her teachers, doctors, and family.
The Sophie's Day Golf Tournament was started in 2015 by Tony and Judy Lee, as a grassroots effort to give back and raise awareness for bone marrow testing and blood cancers like Sophie's.
Since its inception, the tournament has raised over $180,000, with 100% of the proceeds going to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, in conjunction with its Annual Visionaries of the Year Campaign. Through the incredible generosity of supporters like you, we can make a significant impact in the fight against Blood Cancer. With every donation, every volunteer hour, and every purchase of Sophie's Day Golf Tournament merchandise, you are helping us to support critical research, advocacy, and patient care for those affected by these terrible diseases. Together, we can honor Sophie's journey and help ensure that others like her have access to the resources they need to survive and thrive. Thank you for joining us in this important mission.
